Searches for “make a logo with AI” grow every month and the results page is full of free tools. Try one: in ten minutes you will see fifty ideas. Then the questions start: which one, why, and what next? This article puts AI in the right place in logo work — idea generation — and explains what the rest of the job is.

What AI does and does not do

Does: Direction exploration. Describe “jewellery brand, thin serif, gold, minimal” and it shows ten different approaches; within an hour you know which one feels like yours. That used to be three meetings with a designer.

Does not: A finished logo. The generated image is pixels; it breaks when enlarged, cannot go on a sign, has no single-colour version, and loses detail when shrunk. Letters often come out wrong — a “5” where an “S” should be.

Step by step

  1. 01
Write the brief. Brand name, sector, three adjectives (warm, reliable, modern), where it will be used (sign, business card, Instagram profile, product label). Without these, everything generated is random.
  2. 02
Generate directions. 20–30 variants with AI. Save the three you like; write one sentence on why.
  3. 03
Convert to vector. The chosen direction is redrawn in a vector program (Illustrator, Affinity, Inkscape — the last is free). “Auto-vectorise” buttons produce rough lines; manual redrawing is required.
  4. 04
Build the system. Main logo, horizontal/vertical variants, single colour (black, white), minimum size, clear-space rule, colour codes. Without this package the logo splits into ten broken versions within a year.
  5. 05
Test. Shrink it (favicon size), print in black and white, view on a phone, view from sign distance.

Where free tools suffice

Completely, at the idea stage. Not for a finished, registrable, print-anywhere logo — because the output is not vector and originality is not guaranteed.

Originality and trademark

AI models learned from millions of existing logos; what they produce may resemble another brand’s. A similarity search before registration, and running the application with a trademark attorney, are necessary. This article is not legal advice; check the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office’s current guidance.

From logo to identity

A logo is one part of a brand identity; it does not work alone without palette, typeface, visual language and usage rules. What is brand identity design explains it. Sufitware’s brand identity service uses AI at the idea stage and delivers vector drawing, variants and a usage guide; if you already have a direction, attach it to the brief form and we will continue from there.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a free logo with AI and use it?
For ideas and testing, yes. For signage, print and trademark you need vector drawing and an originality check; a generated PNG provides neither.
Can an AI-generated logo be trademarked?
Registrability depends on trademark law and a similarity search. Consult a trademark attorney and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office guidance.
Which file formats should a logo be delivered in?
Vector (SVG, PDF, AI or EPS), horizontal/vertical variants, single-colour versions and PNG exports; plus colour codes and a usage guide.
